Take a Look at the Past With Tarot

The past belongs to the past. There are tarot spreads that include a look at the past. Getting over what has passed is challenging. Indeed the past can reveal shadows, fears, anger, triumphs as well as failures. The past can be full of good and pleasant memories. Some events of the past sometimes impacts on the present. The past does have a strong influence on the present.

The Powers of Positive Energy

It is interesting how the word energy has become a part of our daily lives. Some believe that energy is neutral, till we personalize it and label it positive or negative. Everything on this earth is energy. In physics, energy , an Ancient Greek word, energeia, is an indirectly observed quantity. It is often understood as the ability of a physical system to do work on other physical systems. Since work is defined as a force acting through a distance (a length of space), energy is always equivalent to the ability to exert pulls or pushes against the basic forces of nature, along a path of a certain length.

Do you know your own life purpose? In this modern age, that is not such a simple question. Hey, let's face it, I'm over 40 myself, and though I think I know now what mine is, I didn't just a few years ago!

Some people's perception of psychics, seems to suggest that they are omnipotent. A common inquiry from a potential customer unfolds as follows: Psychic Reader: "What is your name?" Customer: "You tell me, you're the psychic!"

Slipping Into Southern

I don’t recall the exact moment I became a Southerner though my older sister will tell you that my brother and I were Southerners at birth. We were born in Pittsburgh. Southern Pennsylvania, of course. It might help if you knew my life was a study in contrasts. I married a Southerner named Grant. I can still see my Uncle Miles rolling his eyes at the irony.

The Queen is about nurturing your idea and goals. She helps turn dreams into ideas .The Queen nurtures your education and career. The Queen is not a major arcana card but a court card. So she is a little different than in the rest of the minors in her suit. As with the all the suits cards they describe how we are going about our day to day. The Queen has the main idea and is pushing the idea into reality.

When I say "see" here, S-E-E, I am leaning into each persons' particular way of experiencing the world, and that we are each born to see differently. I feel that that simple and deceptive simplicity can go a long way toward elucidating the nucleus of the wonderful variety of visions of the world always present. "All similar, each unique," I like to say, where each of us is simply born to see things differently. What about the blind? The deaf? Each person's way of experiencing and expressing life from THEIR perspective is what I mean by "see." From there I feel we each experience life differently through our own brand of vision, and that is where I call up Tarot to enter.

The Cook's Tarot: Dining With the Major Arcana

The Cook’s Tarot lives up to its advertising: “A unique deck of Tarot-inspired Recipe Cards based on the belief that the world’s problems can be solved in the kitchen.” The kitchen has always been one of my favourite rooms in a home. Kitchen parties are always the best kind of a party; good food, good friends, some guitar playing and lots of laughter. Nothing comforts like food or a cup of tea with a friend and nothing can bring a family closer together than cooking or baking. My children always loved baking with me although they never developed much interest in cleaning up after. We always enjoyed our times together preparing supper or putting together a treat for the whole family. My son went to college to study Culinary Management and he loved the program.

Temperance Key XIV: Liminality

Once upon a time, a long time ago, or maybe it was only Saturday; there was, and there was not, a woman who came from a place of uncommonly common people. She was neither this nor that, nor here nor there. She was only what she wasn’t and wasn’t yet what she was. She was sad to be happy and not happy to be sad. She was betwixt and between whom she once was and who she was going to be; a distant relative to who she was, now a relative distance from all that was before. Her knowing could not remember what her memory believed and her memory could not believe that she could not remember knowing. She was not me and neither was she myself but she was I in my time of liminality .

The Empress Key III: In Her Everalsting Arms

The Empress Key III is the Major Arcana that I have always felt brings out the best in tarot artists because it is the “Mom” card. She is often depicted as pregnant with her hand on her belly or with her arms open as if to welcome you to her embrace. The Empress is usually depicted in lush, voluptuous glory and her bosom is quite ample. For those of us lacking the ample bosom, it doesn’t mean we can’t attain the qualities of the Empress. She represents all aspects of fertility, maidenhood, motherhood, grand-motherhood, loving kindness, compassion, generosity of spirit, universal fecundity and her arms are big enough to go around every child who crosses her path. She is one of the Many Mothers that we will be, know and become, and who have nurtured us in our lives.

The Emperor Key IV: A Constant Man

The Emperor Key IV in the Major Arcana is a card of powerful and empowered male energy and intellect. He represents stability, authority, will, protection, reason and realization. He makes decisions that impact the lives of those who come into his realm and to those who hold him in an exalted position. He has a capacity for greatness, benevolence and strong convictions. His greatest attribute is his constancy. He is steady and steadfast in his attachments; persevering through hardship and in all his undertakings. He is stable, faithful to purpose, loyal, diligent, thorough, reliable, resolute, tenacious, focused, confident, consistent, tolerant, firm, industrious and disciplined. He excels at his chosen profession and he has a satisfied mind. Change is not stressful or overwhelming to him because he is always standing on firm ground. He knows where he is going and he knows where he came from. For him, love and constancy go hand in hand.

We are entering the Holiday Season now, Christmas and New Year’s are fast approaching and the snow is not far behind. It is almost a year now since my brother, Brent, passed away. It is a painful reminder that just because it is a holiday that nothing bad can happen. It is a reminder to not have false expectations or to take anyone or anything in our lives for granted. What is a necessity, what is on the Christmas list, what is being longed for....
